- One of two Economics teachers of the year for the state of Georgia by Georgia Council on Economic Education, February 2017
- Qualifications: Nominees must be teachers in the public and independent schools of Georgia who are either teaching a course in economics or integrating economics into other courses at any grade level. Teachers may nominate themselves or be nominated by another individual.
- Attributes: To be considered for Teacher of the Year, a teacher must demonstrate:
- A knowledge of economics appropriate to the grade level or courses being taught.
- An ability and willingness to use a variety of appropriate methods and resources in teaching economics.
- Enthusiasm for the teaching of economics.
- Creativity in the teaching of economics.

- This award recognizes exceptional music alumni who have made significant contributions to his/her area of musical specialization.
Logan Porter: US History and Government teacher at Pinewood Christian Academy
- Received Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute Scholarship
- During six-day sessions on location in Colonial Williamsburg and the surrounding area, 25 participants and a Master Teacher engage in an interdisciplinary approach to teaching social studies with American history as the focus. Teachers have the opportunity to exchange ideas with historians, meet character interpreters and become part of the story in The Revolutionary City. Throughout each day, teachers work collaboratively with Colonial Williamsburg staff and Master Teachers to examine interactive teaching techniques and develop instructional materials that bring history to life in the classroom. Participants will study civics through the lens of American history by examining the idea that citizens are in a constant debate over the proper balance between essential American values. Teachers will learn to inspire active citizenship by exploring these enduring themes and making connections to present-day issues during visits to Jamestown, Williamsburg and Richmond.
